"Purpose of 'The Pedestrian"

The purpose of the story "The Pedestrian" is to show how people would act if they relied on technology. In this story most of the people lived sedentary lives. For example a man named Leonard Mead was penalized for walking. Leonard chooses to walk instead of watching television and got sent to a psychiatric hospital. In the year 2053walking was considered regressive behavior and no one ever went outside. In society today most people rely on technology to do everything. I think the author was trying to imply that humans will slowly regress and we won't be able to anything on our own.
