San Diego High School

I have been attending San Diego high school for the past 2 weeks. I go to the school of communication. It has been an entirely new experience for me. On my first day I got the chance to attend a pep rally and witness some wonderful caver pride. I also made a lot of friends. In the beginning I thought I wouldn't fit in, but I met some really weird kids here. I am only taking four classes this quarter. So far all most of my teachers are nice. My favorite class is English because we discuss interesting topics and the teacher is very open. I like this change and I hope that I will like my next school just as much.

Chilean Miners Rescue

Thirty three Chilean miners were trapped in a collapsed gold and copper mine six hundred meters below ground. These miners were underground for approximately two months. They survived by rationing their food and staying in an emergency shelter. As a result to being trapped in the mine some of the men suffered from skin conditions, chest infections, and high blood pressure. Psychiatrist also say that they can possibly suffer from metal scars. I think that is was irresponsible for the project director to let the men go into the mine because it wasn't safe. It was very unfortunate for those men to have to go through so much turmoil. It's also amazing that all thirty three men were able to survive and return home to their loved ones. Even though those people could have died during this particular event, it didn't affect me because I did not personally know any of those men.

Essay Reflection

In my essay I made sure to include detailed information about the people and the environment I was in. I also made sure to keep my essay within an hour time frame. I forgot to spell check my essay for grammatical errors because I procrastinated. If I didn't waste so much time I would of probably gotten a better grade. In order for me to become a better writer I would let someone read before a publish it next time so I can most of the errors. In the future when I'm preparing to write another essay I will make sure to do all the necessary steps to get the best grade possible.

"Two Kinds" In the Shoes of a Prodigy

If I was in Jing-mei’s shoes trying to become a young prodigy I would feel like I was under a lot of pressure. People would probably push me to become a poet. I would be constantly trying to live up to everyone’s expectations and standards that there wouldn’t be time for me to discover what I want in life. I would handle the situation by telling them that they can’t decide my future for me. Some people would probably be disappointed in me but I know that I'd be living up to my full potential by doing my best. There would still be pressure on me to not fail at what I do, but that would help me to succeed more.

"Two Kinds" Conflict Experience

When I was around ten years old my friend invited me to go to the mall with her. I wasn't allowed to go alone, but I decided to anyways. We rode on the trolley all the way to the mall .The first thing we did was buy clothes. I was having a lot of fun until I realized it was getting late. As we were getting ready to leave my friend wanted to stop at one last store so I agreed. She didn't have any money left and wanted me to steal something for her. If I didn’t she said that she would steal something and tell my mother that I did. I didn’t know what to do. I decided not to steal anything because she wouldn’t have said that if she was my real friend. After I made it home I told my mother and I felt relieved because I wasn't going to be in trouble.

Dee is a very beautiful yet ungrateful person. Dee doesn't value her own heritage. She reminds me of my sister, Monique. My sister is a very beautiful person on the outside, but she is mean and inconsiderate. Monique doesn't like to come and visit my family because she thinks she is better than us. My sister, Monique and Dee are some what the same because they both are people who don't appreciate their backgrounds. My sister is different from Dee because she would never make fun of the house my mother lives in. Even though she doesn’t like were or how my family is she won’t let anyone else disrespect like my family unlike Dee.

"Everyday Use" from Maggie's Point of View

I feel rejected by my family. I'm basically invisible. When I was twelve years old I was burnt in a fire. While my sister was under a gum tree watching me burn. I could feel the hate in her eyes. After the fire I became insecure and couldn’t dare look anyone directly in the eyes. I sometimes get the sense my mother thinks I'm slow even when I read to her. I remember the time when my sister Dee (Wangero) came to visit with her boyfriend Hakim. She flaunted around in our presence like she was better then her own heritage. Dee (Wangero) tried to belittle me and my mother.

When I got the news of the 9/11 terrorist attack it was during school when I was around 6 years old. I remember being at school as my teacher immediately turned on the news. I didn't understand what happened or that people died I just saw my teacher crying. When I got home I remember my sister telling me that a plane had crashed into the twin towers and a lot of people died. When I returned to school the next day we had an assembly to explain the events that had occurred was sad for the people who died but it didn't really effect me.

I was in shock to see what this world had came to. I realized that I was now a patient at a phyciatric center for doing something that was seemingly normal. The doctors gave me medication and forced me to watch television. They were designing robots to work for humans.I was informed that in order to make progress I needed to get married and start watching television.In this century to be normal meant to watch television all day.I faked my progress and began watching tv.As I finally left the phyciatric center I got married to
a robotic heiress who was secretly made to watch my every move.

"Purpose of 'The Pedestrian"

The purpose of the story "The Pedestrian" is to show how people would act if they relied on technology. In this story most of the people lived sedentary lives. For example a man named Leonard Mead was penalized for walking. Leonard chooses to walk instead of watching television and got sent to a psychiatric hospital. In the year 2053walking was considered regressive behavior and no one ever went outside. In society today most people rely on technology to do everything. I think the author was trying to imply that humans will slowly regress and we won't be able to anything on our own.

Life in 2053

I would wake up to my husband cooking breakfast and my grandchildren's laughter. As I am getting ready for work I head down the stairs and kiss my family goodbye. As I open the door to head for my hover vehicle I can see nothing but the air pollution and the air sanitizers. The world is a disaster filled with new solar technology that is supposed to reverse the damage of previous generations. As I step into my office my client is already waiting for me.Later, after work I return home and watch the news and learn that they discovered the world is going into a new era and dinosaurs are coming alive again.

Yellow Paper Paragraph

One of my most prized possessions is a book called "I Love You Forever”. I love this book because it reminds me of my childhood.Everytime I read it in the past it gave me meaningful memories. This book also reminds me of life before the system and before everything went wrong. I also learned to read from this book and my grandma read it to me every time I visited her. I wouldn't risk my life for this book because I value life more than material things.Although, I would be sad if I lost it or it got damaged.

Poem Analysis Paragraph

The connection between the theme of "Contents of a Dead Man's Pocket" and "You Want a Social Life, With Friends" is that you shouldn't take the things in life for granted. Another connection in both stories is that you shouldn't waste your whole life on something that's not important. In the story "Content's of a Dead Man's Pocket" Tom Benecke wasted his time working and risked his life for a piece of yellow paper rather than spending time with his wife. In the poem "You Want a Social Life, With Friends" Michelangelo constantly painted ceilings and never had a social life with friends.

The most recent time I remeber being paralyzed by fear was about two weeks ago while I was on a visit with my mom and neice at the park.I'm very over protective so I was scared that she might get hurt.As I was watching my neice go down the slide an older kid came to play with her.The older kid decided to slide down with a skateboard and he hit my neice and she started to cry.I was paralyzed by fear,but then I ran over and realized she wasn't hurt.I scared her more then the impact of the skateboard.

"Contents of the Dead Man's Pocket"

Tom Benecke decided to retrieve a yellow paper off the ledge of his window. He realized he was trapped outside and would die if he didn't break the window open so that he could crawl in. If I was Tom Benecke I would have never gone out on the ledge to get the paper, but if I had to I would make sure a neighbor was there to help me. I also would have left my window open. My decision would have changed the plot because I would have not been locked out my window or be scared of falling.

Homework or friends

If I had to study for a test or hang out with my friends I would rather study for the test because I want a promising future. My friends would be a little upset but they would have to understand why I'm saying no. Education helps you get places in life and teaches you stuff about the world. When I hang out with my friends they usually distract me and then I start to think its okay to blow off my homework. When I grow up I want to be independent and not have to get any help from the state which is why I think it is good to do your homework.

Memorable Birthday

I was as excited as I woke up on the morning of my eighth birthday. I was headed for Disneyland. My grandparents took me on a road trip .I had slept halfway there but as soon as we arrived I became energetic and full of life. We checked into our hotel room and headed out to start going on rides. I felt like the happiest kid in the world. My favorite place to go into was the haunted mansion, Splash Mountain, and the peter pan. I even got Minnie mouse birthday cake and tinker bell balloons. After my fun was over it was time for me to leave the wonderful world of magic, and tell my grandparents goodbye.

Embarassing Moment

It was a windy day while I was attending the sixth grade. All of a sudden the fire alarms went off and I realized I had forgotten my backpack in the classroom. My class headed outside to form the procedure lines, but it was time for school to get out so everyone headed home. As I approached my driveway I remembered that I had forgotten my backpack in the classroom. So I headed back to school in search of my backpack. An abrupt wind came by and gave me the immediate urge to use the restroom, but all of the restrooms where locked. I began looking for the janitor to open the classroom and I peed on myself. The janitor asked me if I was okay and I lied and said I was special ed.I not only peed on myself in front on myself in front of the janitor and lied about being in special ed,but I had to walk home smelling like pee.

It was a sunnny, Saturday morning when I woke up to get ready for my visit. I was exhausted from staying up all night, and I had no idea what to wear. I went into Heather's room to ask her if she could do my makeup. She said sure. It was around twelve in the afternoon when I was all done getting ready so I headed to the office. Marta was my driver which wasn't too exciting.We arrived at Balboa Park around 1:00 o,clock and I got to spend most of the afternoon with my neice.When the visit was over I was a little sad, but happy to get come back home. Later that day Heather and I sat in the grass released our stress.

First Day of School

Yesterday was my first day of school and it was alright. My favorite class was art because of the one on one intereraction.For the most part my mood was happy ,but I had a feeling of laziness. The one class I really didn't care for was geometry because it was too crowded with upper class men.I didn't go to my first period class because I was waiting all morning for my schedule. I am going to make the best of this school year and try my hardest. Overall I enjoyed my first day of school because it was my introduction to my sophmore year.
